Hi all

Just aquired a 2nd hand Robonova.

I've only had a couple of hours to play with it so far but i'm well impressed and can't wait to start some programming.

However, i seem to have a problem with the remote.

When it arrived it did all the moves from the default template program via the remote but the remote was very hard to use. The remote seemed to be ignored most of the time by the robot and only responded after many attempts of clicking buttons on the remote.

When turned on but idle the RN blue LED seems to do a sequence of flashes two short and one slightly longer then repeats this sequence continuosly unless it is doing an action then it stays on while doing the action.

Anyway I changed the batteries in the remote and confirmed it was working by monitoring the LED transmitter in the viewfinder of a digital camera.

I then downloaded the advanced template program from hitec and uploaded to the RN. With the advanced template the blue LED does not come on but the remote seems to work a lot better.

Only problem being that most of the actions the RN just seems to throw itself on the floor, but im sure i can look at this myself

In summary then - with the original template program the blue led flashes while the RN is idle but the RN seems to ignore the remote 90% of the time.
With the advanced template program running, the LED is off in idle but the RN seems to respond much better to the remote.

Any idea what might be going wrong with the remote?

Thanks

Hi,

The most likely cause of the basic template flashing the LED is that Hitec include a battery check routine without the supporting hardware (a simple voltage divider). That means the led flashes all the time and while flashing the IR reciever is not serviced hence lack of response from the remote. There are two ways to fix this -

1. Add a voltage divider
2. rem out the battery check routine.

both are detailed here http://www.bipedrobots.co.uk/rnindex.aspx?id=300

Hope this helps

Yea whay pev said, as for the falling over have you set the zero point on your RN?

You may have to tweak the moves from the template for your own RN.

Good luck.

It was the Voltage check

Works fine with it turned off
