Palm Bluetooth Remote for Robonova

Hi all,

Two years ago there was an application "MECH Puppeteer" made by Matt Bauer http://robosavvy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=160.
It's to control the Robonova-1 humanoid robot with a PC via a serial lead or Bluetooth connection. On the Robonova side there is a template program which takes the commands from the PC and carries them out.

I took the application to the Palm PDA and made the BTRobonova application. Matt gave the permission to use the graphics and Robonova Basic template from MECH Puppeteer.

Minimum Palm OS requirement is version 3.0, BTRobonova is Palm OS version 5 compliant.
It has been tested with Palm T|X and Tungsten E2 at the moment. The application should run on Treo and Centro smartphones with Palm-OS, theoretically also on the older Palms (Handspring) with Bluetooth extension modules.

Image.

It's freeware, you can download it at http://www.roboter-teile.de/download/BTRobonova101.zip.

Any comments, suggestions and bug reports are welcome.

Have Fun
Joerg

Nice work Joerg!

do you have an infrared version of this?

Ditto..I have and old PEG-TJ35-E1, with an IR port but no BT, it would be nice to make use of the cute device again.

I'm using Palm Treo 650, but my RN-1 doesn't have bluetooth.

I hope there's an infrared version of this program so i could control RN-1 with my Treo's IR

Guys, theres a really good BT available right here. The sparkfun BT module fits under the chest armor of RN-! and gives me control from my laptop or a palmpilot. the IR controller is interferred by almost any thing at the tournements, is limited to only four users and in general sucks. Keep reading this forums posts under BT and you will get the information you will need to use BT, plus there members that will help you set you up with templates , coding and hopefully you'll show up at robogames so RN-! can beat on your bot.

Sorry for late answer, I wasn't here for some weeks or better months because of lack of time....

Thank you for your comments about the Remote for Palm PDA.
But there is no plan to make an IR version of the programm to control the Robonova.

To make an infrared remote control with the Palm there is a lot of work to do for emulating the infrared remote protocol with the IRDA device. It's possible and was made for example in the old OmniRemote or the newer NoviiRemote applications but would take a lot of time.

The most important cause for me not to do this, is the end of the Palm OS era, the new Palm Pre has an Web-OS which is not compatible to the Palm-OS programs.

Why not use the Bluetooth things, there are a lot of BT devices useable with Robonova and the most newer devices with Palm-OS has BT capabilties.

Best Regards,
Joerg
