My RN-1 HSR-8498HB burnt up

The little guy's left knee servo started smoking (It actually started to melt the plastic servo casing). I opened it up and noticed the two small ICs are burnt along with half the PCB. The +6V and GND lines are now shorted.

Luckily I had a couple of 5498SGs that I bought to do a hip mod and used one of them to replace his broken knee servo.

I'm not sure but I'm guessing it happened because of a short between the signal line and the 6V rail. I would have expected the servo to have protection against that happening tho! The servo cables are prone to breaking easily.

Anyone else experienced burnt out servos?

The SG is now described as having protection. The HB does not.

The normal failure mode is the motor overheating and going short circuit. The ICs fail due to the motor failure.

Check the motor resistance, to see if this is your situation.
