Hello all...been lurking long enough to get a healthy respect for the people who post here. Seems like a mature and articulate crowd. I hope to not be TO much of a pest in the coming months!...=)

Actually, I have decided to purchase a robot and want a bi-ped "humanoid". The three that stand out (to me) are the KHR-1, the Robonova and the Bioloid. Now, it has been many (and I mean many) moons since I tried Basic programming but I am not afraid to dive back in. I am NOT a VB, C, C++ or a PIC programmer so that aspect of robotics is where the most pain will come from. I have a fair knowledge of servos, electronics and some electro-mechanical background.. I am not sure how much hacking I want to do, but it intrigues me. I definatly like the aspect of Robo-One competitions though. San Fransico is to far to travel (I live in Boston) so actually SEEING a live competition is still to be determined, but I want to get involved at that level.

So....the KHR-1 seems like the most expensive, the least "hackable friendly" but perhaps the best suited to competition? The Robonova seems like the most "hackable" , mid-range price, and a terrific community (i.e. this board) to go to for info...the Bioloid is the least expensive of the bunch, but also the least amount of info available as well...
I am tempted to wait and see what the next generation Robonova platform looks like (likely to have better peripherals support like the Bluetooth issue, etc...) and work on programing skills in the mean time, but I am antsy and not sure when version 2 may come out?
Any thoughts /feedback would be much appreciated...thanks folks.
