Hello everyone..
My name is Mike, and I haven't even started this "new" Hobbie yet. I'm still shopping around, but really interested in the Robonova-i. My main experience has been with RC Cars, like RC Nitro Kits, and X-mods. Love to mod for speed and handling. Improving and creating is a thrill to me.

So why get into humanoid robotics? I saw a RobotGames video and fell in love with the idea, and challange to create a very agile, and stable bi-ped that can do a multitude of chores, and movements. To improve, create, learn from others, and learn for myself.

Ok enough of the back ground stuff. I'm sure I bored you all silly by now. Question time.....

First I live in Maryland USA and would like to purchase a ROBONOVA. Any of you know a good web site that can be trusted to get one... Just the kit not the built one. {I want to get to know it from the ground up}

Second- Is the program language hard to learn? Where would I get info to self teach or maybe get a tutor to help me out.

As I said I live in Maryland and looked for maybe a club to join but I guess this state is boring cause there is nothing like this around, except really complex clubs at schools. And, I'm not that intellegent, just really good with my hands. Know any good clubs near by?

My main study for this project is going to be movement and balence (By the way I can't spell for the life of me) Utilizing Agilty, speed, and balence by adjusting weight, movement (as in dance or basic acrobatics), program, and adding sensors like IR, Gyro, Tilt, or anything else that would help. (I know alot of you are already 40 steps ahead of me in all this but just humor me please.... PLEASE!!) Example: Taking hours and hours to create a complex type of dance or movement and make it smooth. What do you think? A worth while goal?

Anyway, any and all comments welcome. I don't get offended and would love to hear all imput.

Thanks in advance for the welcome and advice.

Mike (Soon to be a New RoboNova-I owner)

P.S. I am also getting into Resin Fabrication, and carbon fiber fabrication.

Hi Mike,

Any of you know a good web site that can be trusted to get one...

Why not buy from Robosavvy :?

Is the program language hard to learn?

As you may already know RoboNova is programmed with RoboBASIC.....I think it is relatively easy to learn. And I'm no whiz.

My main study for this project is going to be movement and balance .........

Sounds ambitious, you may find RoboBASIC too slow, to achieve some of the things you describe.......but I think its a good place to start.

Hi Mike, I'm pretty much in the same position as you're in.

Maybe we'll exchange some tips and info on our findings eh?

It's true what they say, the RC bug bites, and then it doesn't let go. ha

If you go on youtube, and type in "omnizero.6" you'll find a bot with the smoothest movements I've ever seen. The creator, and I forget his name, has won countless robo-one competitions for not only fighting but in other criteria as well.

Give it a geez, you might get inspired about your smooth movement dance sequence!

I did see a video with omnizero in it.. in fact it was a robo one comp. and I was completly impressed with it. Thats one of the reasons I'm getting into this and Resin Fabrication. Going to build and mod, then Fabricate one from the ground up. Well thats the plan so far. While I mod The robonova I'll work on its movements making them smooth and fast. Again thats the plan. First gotta buy one.. LOL

Ok just bought a new RoboNova. I want to thank you all for the help with this choice and to let you all know that I really can't wait to start to build it. Oh and I'm also got a GWS single axis gyro PG-03 Piezo Gyro, and a HiTec Distance sensor to start with.

Mike

P.S. should be here by Monday.... I hope.

Sweet as Mike.

Let us know how you go with it and keep us updated on anything you think is worth sharing!

Still deciding on a bot myself..
