USB Cable with Robobasic

New user question: I see that it is possible to use a USB to Serial adapter cable to program Robonovas from newer computers lacking serial ports. When starting Robobasic, it asks what serial or COM port you are using but does not offer a USB option. What should I answer at this point so that Robobasic will let me use a USB cable? Thanks for your help. - TechnoBuff

When the USB serial cable is plugged into the PC it will be enumerated and assigned a COM port number. This number can be discovered by looking at the COM ports assigned in Windows Device Manager. This is the number to use for Robobasic.

Thank you i-bot. I've been working with computers since the mid-70s, programming within applications since the mid-80s, building and rebuilding since the 90s, and teaching applications since the 2000s, and I did not know that simple fact because it never came up before. These things will humble me yet. Now if only my battery didn't die every five minutes but refuse to charge longer than nine.
