Kuroneko is taco'd!!

I ordered an RN-1 last week. It's not here yet, but I plan to do a few mods on him. I plan to make his legs able to rotate, and his head too. I also plan to do the arm mod that Hivemind did not too long ago, at some point. But there's one problem: He needs a name! I've thought of a couple names, but they're all silly and weird. Here they are, in all their glory:

Ro-Bo-Nuh-Vuh-One (I always call RoboNovas Ro-Bo-Nuh-Vuhs for some reason, I guess because it sounds silly)

Robo-Adobo (My favorite food, w00t)

Uber Robot Man (LOL)

RoboFlash (I dream of making my RoboNova the fastest ever!)

That's it, help me out with names!

I finished building the grippers. It took forever, and it's not even very amazing... I guess I'm not a good robot builder like you guys...

Dont be put off. It can take between 8 - 12 hours work to build the RoboNova and there are a few pit falls to watch out for in the instructions too. The words don't tie up with the pictures some times. I think there is a thread with some corrections on the forum.

My advice would be:-

Build it in small steps. I built mine over a period of a week and tried not to rush it. Saves the blistered hands from screwdrivers too.

I also only used 2 of the 4 screws on the servo horns until I was sure it was all ok. Then went back and screwed the rest in after the first test.

Use a good screw drivers so you dont mangle the screw heads coz you may need to get them out again.

Steady pace wins the race dude..!!

Most of us started off in the same situation you're facing now. I can remember staring at a bracket and checking the manual illustration for what seemed like hours (it was probably only a few minutes, but it felt like hours) before I got up the courage to put the first parts together.

Be patient, breathe deeply, take frequent breaks, and don't hesitate to ask for help when you think you need it.

Thanks guys. I have Red Fox Dude helping me out with what to do and screwing stuff in. He's been a lot of help, and I probably wouldn't have finished one gripper yet without his help.

a bit of advise an electrtic srcew driver for 10 bucks will make the whole thing so much easier!

Today I assembled most of the right leg, and some of the left leg. I got cut while screwing in the screws, but it didn't hurt. My thumb and wrist are very tired at this point... But I'm proud of what I've done!

Cool, it is a mamoth task but sounds like you're making good progress. Just keep going at a steady pace and you'll be amazed how quickly it comes together.

Today I finished both legs and both arms. I plan to start the top of the torso tomorrow, but not the bottom, as I am still waiting for my extra servos and brackets to come for the leg rotation mod. Here's some pics of what I've done so far.

At this point I'm waiting for my servos to come... But in the meantime, RedFoxDude helped me think of a better name. Knowing that I'm a rabid cat lover, he suggested Kuroneko, which means black cat. I said, "hellz yes omg" and now my RN-1 is named Kuroneko.

Just another word of advice, but feel free to do ur own thing as it's your bot. If you are fairly new to the robot field it might be worth you building the RoboNova in it's stock mode and playing before adding the extra hip complication.

I've finished assembling Kuroneko. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to add the extra servos to the zero positioning thing. Anyone know how to do this? Course you do.

Also, he's headless right now. His head hasn't come in the mail...
