Stripped Servo Maybe?

My Rn-1's right hip servo #3 to be exact ... I have read all the servo's and reset my controller and cleared it. It makes a MILD buzzing sound and will not move unless you move it from it's zero position. I think that it's stripped could I be wrong and if not then is their a way to get Hitec to replace or repair it?


P.S. I've read the other post's about similar problems in the #4 and fired servo's ...just need some feed back is all.

Yup, that sure sounds like a stripped servo to me.

Too bad, it seems like these servos just dont hold up well. I have lost a few, and almost lost another just last night (luckily the grinding gears i heard was because i forgot to put in all the screws but my servo is fine). I would contact Hitec and ask for replacement.

Or, if you dont want to go with the month+ long waiting process for that to go through, then you could just order some new gears.

depending on which gear has gone.you can rotate the slave gear 180' and put it back in.this is an old r/c car trick that we did at trackside if no spares where available.i assume that you have checked that the brackets are all free and that you have tried it with nothing attached.
if all else fails Pev has the right idea ,buy some gears and job done.

yeah I checked this site http://www.servocity.com/html/hsr-8498h ... servo.html was wondering if this is a good deal and plus whats up with the rotation spec's didnt know it had a 90,180,360 are the RN-1's servo's all 90? I was thing about getting some replacement gears as you both have mentioned and ordering 2 back-ups just in case and well for a few mods.

They're 180's
... I'd just get the gear replacements instead of shipping it out. Servo gears strip (especially the "Karbonite" ones), and they don't cost too much considering.

The servo city web site is messed up. The HSR-8498HB's only come in 180 degree configuration. There is no extra charge.

After alot of use i've finally started to have some troubles with one of the ankle servos.
The servo works fine with full range of motion when operated with the controller. However with power off I can only move the servo 90 degrees.

I'm still fairly new to servos and hope someone can point me toward some good info that might help. I want to be somewhat educated before trying to fix this.

I have taken apart the right leg upper servo #3 to see if it was stripped I followed Matt's site to compare to if maybe it was.. I have rotatted while the cover was off and none of the gears were stripped. I have no clue why #3 servo is not responding to commands. If you nudge it a little it then will follow through but at it's zero position it will not move on it's own.

Any other sugestions of what is going on?

Sounds like you motor is cooked. I'm surprized the h-bridge hasn't cooked yet. Usually the motor shorts when it dies. If your case the brushes are probably damaged, just not shorted, open at times. If you had a gear stripped then you would hear it. Sorry to say, "he's dead jim"
Hitec will replace it you just need to contact Tony Ohm at hitecrcd.com. They'll send out a new one but it takes a while at least thats my experience.

If it hadn't happen to me I wouldnt think of this, but maybe your wire is broken inside of its plastic sheath. One of my upper knee servos did that a while back and when I put the wire in the correct place it would always work, but most of the time it wouldnt. A simple wire replacement and it was good as new. But it sounds like you might have further issues.

Anyway, its worth testing, but I wouldnt get your hopes up. And if that is the case STOP USING IT! because it could easily short and your RN could go up in flames. If you do choose to continue please use a video camera at all times to benefit the rest of us here (just kidding).

I second Bullit though, it is most likely that your motor is gone, and the replacement will take a while.

Well thank you all for the concern I have taken the other side off and looked I see no burn or damage of any sort. I hear the servo running it has a mild tone sound like the motor is running but not able to move...so yeah I think maybe the brushes are screwed...all I have is a multi meter any know how to test and see what I could get?.....Ohhhhh yeah and every dang place us sold out of the HS-8498hb's..... I was wanting to order those along with the mighty feather micro hs-65hb....I ran into some money and I was wanting to get my gyro's, tilt, and accelerometers....any good site that has it all....list a few if you like al I have found so far is.... robotshop, servocity, lynxmotion, towwer hobbies... they all seem to be sold out or not having what I need.
