The most valuable addition to a Robonova or any robot is your time. Make sure you have a compatible PC and USB/Serial port. All software is available on download before you get the robot. Do you already know basic ?

IR remote is a pain, so look to alternative (Bluetooth, PS2,..)
Gyros are fun, but only after you have spent some learning time without.
Rest is up to your wallet and your individual interest.
