Error code -5

Hi

I've now managed to build a RN1 and impress the family with its set moves via the remote control. Additionally I've made pc contact with the controller using roboremote and roboscript and even Matt Bauers Mech Puppeteer.
I'm now trying to expand my horizons by 'downloading' code from roboBASIC v2.5. Using the Run All or Download icons it starts to download then I get an 'Error code -5', Errors in data transmission - check cables etc.
I have controller contact and can set the zero points etc from within roboBASIC. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Ric

have you checked what type of your controller is set to 3000 or the 3024?

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Ric did you ever resolve this issue? I just got my RN1 assembled and similar symptoms to yours. I can control with the remocon, I was able to run some scripts, I am also able to turn the servo zero set points. However, whenever I compile and try to download through Robobasic v2.5 I get programming error #5.

By the way, my unit came with a MRC3024.

Thanks!

HI guys, just got my laptop/RN-! BT controller, I was having the same problem. I had to go through the set com ports untill I recieved the message that I had com with the controller again. the reason I had to do this was because the laptop didn't have a built in rs 232 port I had to use an USB to RS-232 adaptor and install the drivers, which changed the com-port. Luckily it was only moved to com 14 the bluetooth is on com 40 that would have taken a little longer. good luck

I ended up making my own serial cable up as the one supplied only lasted me two weeks.

One of the main reasons for this error is due to a low battery. The RN will not accept a download if the power is low.

Hi

I'd already pm'd Kurt my suggestions on this one, but I'll add the following:

I initially put this down to Windows 98 because as soon as I tried it on a newer laptop with XP it worked fine.
Since then I had the same problem with XP on a different machine. In this case a Core 2 Duo. I'll admit it was a Mac, but don't fret Dirty, I clean booted Windows as opposed to using Parallels.
In all cases serial to usb drivers looks to be the culprit.

What is strange is that most RN1 software communicates fine i.e. zero points etc. It's just the actual uploading of code in Robobasic that seems to fail.

Ric,
I use a Mac to upload to RN-1 with parallels and boot camp. Have had error code -4 once which turned out to be the serial lead not pushed in all the way on the RN-1. The only other issue I had was with Bioblue PC which needed the latest Net.framework 2.0 downloaded for it to work. Downloaded the latest drivers from prolific for my serial to usb adapter and touch wood not had a problem. Be interesting to see what code 5 is just in case!!!

Thanks guys! I was able to get a situation that worked. The issue is related to my laptop docking station. When I have my laptop docked, the serial cable doesn't connect to to RN1 -- I always get error code -5. However, hooking directly to my laptop not in the docking station allows it to work.

I also found that using a UART to USB converter does work while the laptop is docked.

Thanks for your tips!

Here is a video of my RN1 connected to a Logic Product Development Intel/Marvell PXA270-10 kit using a windows CE application and LCD interface to kick off RN1 movements.
