Regarding Installation of Bluetooth for Robonova

Hi everyone,

I just bought a MULTIPLEX Bluetooth module for RN-1. When I'm installing the setup software, Bluetooth module is attempting make a initial connection with my laptop. My Bluetooth Device in my laptop (HP Pavilion dv5000 running Windows 7 Ultimate) is asking for a Device Pairing Code to add this device to the list of bluetooth devices. I have checked in the documentation everywhere, but it is of no use. And without making that intial connection I am not able to operate my roboBASIC s/w. So please help me out here.

I have not used this bluetooth, but it is usual for the Pairing code to be defaulted to either "1234" or "0000"

Thanks a lot i-Bot. That fixed the problem. But I'm facing another one here.

I'm using Windows 7 on my laptop, so when I add the bluetooth device to my laptop windows says "The device has been successfully added to your system", but the Bluetooth does not show that the connection is established.

So I've tried the same with Windows XP and with XP the LED indicator is activated in the BT module. But when I start the roboBASIC s/w, it is unable to send/receive any program from the RN.

Please help me out. I'm stuck in the beginning itself (for my M.S. project)

Bluetooth on the Robonova does not provide a replacement for the serial cable, so cannot communicate with the robot from Robobasic direct, only from the downloaded code running on the robot

The bluetooth is connected to the ETX ERX pins and accesible from using the ETX, ERX command.

I have done serial cable replacement over bluetooth, but it is much more complex to set up and has some performance issues.

then where is bluetooth useful ? How does it replace cables ?

I'd be really grateful if you can explain in plain English. Thank you very much for the help.

The bluetooth does not replace any cables. It is an alternative method of remote control, and usually replaces the function of the IR remote control with a bluetooth radio link.

The examples in the Wiki do this using a pocket pc to replace the remote control.

To allow interface to the bluetooth module and to perform the the selected moves, special scripts are made using Robobasic

Bluetooth can be used for other purposes to communicate with a robobasic script while running, but you would need to write special robobasic code for that.
