my Robonova

yes i have a standard robonova with the 3024 board and i have the infrared sensor attachment, planning to build grippers and more joints to make the robot have more DOF and a custom head unit later on, also wanting to look into the :

1.voice command
2.autonomous walking
3. speaker that can play music files or sound files

4.does anyone have some robobasic programs i could use ive already altered the basic template so that moves are faster and efficient

examples: martial arts or dance moves ?

5. does anyone know a good place to buy more of the brackets (andonized)/ and hitech robot servos
so that i can convert some to gripers \ also to mod legs and arms so the can turn inward and outward

Welcome and good to see someone still showing love for this robot. Anyway, for voice command there are some youtube videos on this, I recommend contacting those people. For autonomous walking, you will want to get the sonar kit, the 2 axis accelerometer, and at least two touch sensors to get it moving about on its own. All of these are available at the active robots site but since the robot has been discontinued parts are scarce so buy while you can! Furthermore, for playing sound files I think there is a post on that so check the forum. If you want dance and martial arts moves many have posted there files on the forum so again just look. Also, if you go to this site

Furthermore, if you look up manoi2010 on youtube he does some amazing motions that you can try. Lastly I saw some brackets in black available on ebay and active robots still has some, I hope this helps.

thank you very much for your help, it will go a long way in my project to make the robonova more versatile , near same capabilities of a bioloid gp in movement hopefully after i redesign the structure of the brackets and motor placement ,along with these additional sensors it will make for an interesting robot with easy programing , an maybe bring more attention back to the robonova in the public eye (i know its discontinued but i got mine from robotshop.com last friday so its not lost yet)

if all goes well ill post the designs and modification schematics for those who what to try it , along with whatever movement programs i come up with for the new setup

may call it robonova II or something ...

Interesting comparison of the Robonova to the Bioloid GP. Th Bioloid GP has less degrees of freedom in the leg than some other bioloids, yet performs better. In fact GP is more similar to Robonova in joints.

Better performance of GP is usually attributed to higher power servos, and the Robotis servos especially AX18 are significantly more powerful.

If my torque calcs. are correct:

AX12 1.47 N-m
AX18 1.76 N-m
8498 .875 N-m
5498 1.32 N-m

Maybe servo upgrades go on your list too.

Redesign the brackets? Try doing this mod it requires no extra parts and improves the running speed.

by what ive seen the nova is limited in the arms were the gp is more versatile in the arm area , i plan to alter the middle motor mount on the arms so that it creates an elbow, joint so that the novas can now move the arms up and down and perform more complex routines

and yes the torque on those is definitely higher im sure i could replace but im trying to keep cost down and stay with what ive got

and what servos would you recommend if i did want to replace ??

im eventually going to build a bot from scratch so this is good to know for a later date.

but that limits it a bit ... i do like the speed , im having issues coming up with a fast running nova so far ive got a basic casual walk going but i want to make it do quick run that keeps center of gravity low and keeps nova balanced ....

and i was looking at savys shop and noticed a few grippers .. could these generic grippers work on the novas board has the three pin setup as does the novas servos (i know thats the usuall) but they are colored diff so may need different out put of current ...

and on a side note is matt still selling his grippers? if so what is the strongest servo i can use with it and the standard robonova arm would probably use another hitec robotics servo like on the arm already above the hands right???
