yah i saw that! It looks like it will be pretty cool, i wonder what the stunt is going to be. If anyone has any news about this post it here.

It looks like the bike is sort of a RC-controlled one. I can imagine, that the want to shift the control of the bike from the human on the RC to the RN1 which is sitting on the chopper.

They said, they will track the development in the robot magazine.

Leo Garza, project manager at M5 Industries, the robotics design facility run by MythBuster Jamie Hyneman, is spearheading this new initiative. As he recently put it, this first jump will be "One small step for a bot, one great RC-motorcyle-assisted leap for botkind."

The Robonova-1 will control a Thunder Tiger RC motorcycle and attempt a world record leap, which will be documented by the Guinness Book of World Records. The project is in its early stages but the ability of the bike to carry the RN-1 doing figure-8's and basic laps has been demonstrated.

Castle Creations has provided a brushless motor for added power, and a modified bike frame has been developed for the jump. This could become an annual competition, to be sponsored by Robot magazine and whoever wants to be involved. Robot will report on the team's progress, and we will all see what transpires!

I wonder how the gyro is mapped to the servos in order to stabilize the RN1 on top of the running motorcycle.

When riding a bike slowly I think we correct unwanted side falls by slight turning of the front wheel (fast cycling is more complex). Maybe the same can be acheived by mapping the sholder servos to the gyro while the the hands are fixed to the steering wheel ?

i have a 1/5 rc scale motor-bike - the bike stays upright due to gyroscopic forces created with speed - very much like a real motorbike
turning the thing requires a quick turn of the handle bars then straightening again...this will drop the bike to one side....the tightness of turn is determined by speed....to get out of turn you can either accelerate and gyroscopic forces will do there thing eventually or you can flick handle bars back in oppisite direction - a point to note to turn right the right hand side handle bar is pushed forward - this wood cause you to turn left on a slow moving cycle....this is to do with the reduced surface area on the rounded tire sides and of cause the good ol gyroscopic forces

sooooo.... i am guessing rn1 is only along for the ride...if gyros are used for stablisation they will be attched to the accellerator...allthough it is quite possible they will use the robot to steer...

either way it will make good television

I'm looking in the mag right now and it says "The team hopes to perform the stunt before the end of the year.", so I wonder if thay did it or not? http://www.botmag.com Does not have any up dates ether.

Back in late Spring I heard they may have been scouting for some possible RN-1/robot experts to help advise. I don't know how much (if any) other bits of accurate information I can disclose here, but remember the Myth Busters is funded by the Discovery Channel... what other shows originating on Discovery could be linked to an RN-1 ramping over stuff on a custom nitro RC bike?

I'm really looking forward to seeing this!

Matt how do you know all this? As for who will help them is it OCC (orange county chopers)? Thare going to with nitro now, cool! Can't wait to here more! Oh and Humanoido I think that would be illegal to post it on YouTube, but I see what you mean I only get 2 (two) CH on my TV, ABC, and NBC, so I can't watch it either... But robot magazine might post it on there site (hope fully).
