hello, I am new to robotics and know a lot about electronics. I have settled on a robonova-1 because of its durability and features. I am in Australia Canberra so does anyone know of a source that i can get robonova from and get it shipped to Australia?

thanks in advance,

pakangu[/b]

They are not as readily available any more since they are old technology. I picked my Robonova up on eBay. Mine is fine (it was brand new and assembled) but I know of someone else in Aust who was sold a dud. Have you tried this site to see if they still have them:

thanks ozfiddler,

I wanted the kit version, but if the kit version goes out of stock, I might have no choice but to go with the ready to walk version.

thanks again,

patkangu

Wow, just did a little looking around, and they've really vaporized. The company that made the RN-1 (NOT actually Hitec, btw!) released a new version of the 'bot, you can see it here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Metal-Dance-Fighter-Robot-Toy-Remote-Controller-BLUE-/190536800496?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c5ce0d8f0

Their website is http://minirobot.co.kr , but it's not in English. There was http://minirobot.com.sg , but that site appears to be gone or down.

If you search for Metal Fighter Robot on Google or whatever, you can find some hits.

Amazing how the RN-1's have vanished. I do like the Bioloid GP, but it costs too much for me (Around $2,800 USD?!?! Really, Robotis - does it need to cost THAT MUCH??? Might pay HALF of that!). I ended up with a few RN-1's for a good bit less, but the RN-1's servos (8498 or 5498) are not as strong as the Bioloid GP's. That said, if you don't need the crazy power, and are ready to work with the more wobbly RN-1 w/ 8498's, they are cheaper when you can find them! :)

Take Care,
Paul

Hi patkangu

With Robonova being discontinued by Hitec it should be increasingly difficult to obtain support and spare parts for your Robot (should you go with a RN-1).

Speaking on behalf of Roboavvy, we've placed all our remaining stock of Robonova on sale (we believe good deals for those who owned one) but we don't have any plans to continue carrying the Robonova line or accessories.

I would suggest that you also consider Bioloid PREMIUM which has proven a very reliable platform and has a great, more modern software software suite.

(a low cost alterntive to Bioloid is Robobuilder; while offering less servos and less powerful software is makes up with a great Serial API 8absent in Bioloid and RN) and alternative firmwares)

Regards
Pedro.
