I love your forum guys, very very useful!

I have just built my very first Robo, everything looks sweet except when i am configuring the zero settings the default stance of Robo is with his arms down by his sides, the arms have full 180 degree rotation and the servos 1 is pointing into the body on both sides, this matches the manual as far as i can see

However in the picture of the zero setting in the manual the arms are stretched flat out like a bird, the zero setting tweak wont move the arms up enough to get a flat postion

Help! I am so close to being able to play with him! :)

p.s. the grip hand posts were amazing does anyone sell these things?

Cheers

Congrats Snow. It's always great the first time you turn an RN on!

I'd make sure you followed the wiring diagram correctly as well. I did not, figuring that I could set which port controls which servo, but that initial position activates all servos, and one tried to jam a leg into the body, burning out the servo.

If the wiring is correct, when you try to zero the position, are the incorrect arms rigid or easily positioned? If they're loose, something may be wrong electrically, otherwise, I'm not sure.

bauermech sells the grips at http://bauerindependents.com. I know if they're on this site as well.

Hi

This happened to me when I first tried to set up my RN-1. I also had very very erratic results linking to RoboBasic. This occured using a serial port on a pc running Windows 98.
Since using a serial to USB convertor on a laptop running XP I've had no problems connecting.
Whilst I can't be sure the 'arms by the side' part was down to the poor bus connection the arms started going horizontal for a zero config. at this point and I hadn't changed anything on the RN-1 hardware side. Hence I'd suggest it may not necessarily be your construction at fault.

I had full functions via the remote before I'd even connected to a PC and software was configured. Have you tried this?

Thanks guys,

Initially i did get the arms the wrong way round which pushed them into the body on turn on but since turning them around when i turn it on the arms settle next to the body in the default position which is correct. I have also double checked the wiring and it all looks fine
Its just the zero config where the arms dont go straight out

I have connected it to the PC and downloaded the temaple file into it, the remote works fine and it does all the moves besides i have some balence issues on cartwheels and such like but i think this is probably just the zero config not being perfect on the legs

i ordered a usb cable so ill see if that works with the arms like you suggest, it seems the smallest thing out of balence can cause it to fall over

Thanks for the help guys!
