At this time I´m very bussy by work, but I got the servos to do test and steel cable from a fiberscope, thanks to the Olympus technicall service, here is the first attempt:

thanks srobot! but this is only the first prototype, let me any days to make some more and to make the bracket to fit it in the robot. At the end is posible than this kind of grippers doesn´t work fine like the bauer´s, and if they work I will start thinking about to sell it, in a far future.

8) Hi,

Here's a gripper that can pick up things bigger than the $220+ bauer grippers ($100 bauer grippers brackets + $120 pair of servos = $220) and you only buy a $9 servo per arm and cut-up an old pop can ...

http://www.brainless.org/MultiMedia/Rob ... ripper.jpg

http://www.brainless.org/MultiMedia/Rob ... ripper.dxf

All you do is get a pop can and cut out the shape and fit it on the micro servo of your choice ... then using 5-minute epoxy ... stick it to the forearm of the arm of your choice as in the pictures below ...

And the nice thing is you can remove the gripper by just peeling it off ... 5-minue epoxy sticks very well for function but is easily removed when you want to make a change ... or you can use hot-glue ... either glue gets the job done quick 'n easy ...

Lastly, most hobby robotics only requires one gripper ... I mean really, how much crap is your robot going to carry? And, I haven't seen a RoboNova-1 actually climb a rope either ... and it's way too slow to climb a rope or ladder into space ...

Yes the price is very steep just for 2 anodized pieces....I do agree, but yours are pretty much crappy I know it is wrong to falme, in this case someone needs to share an opinion about these...you have been how long popping up on any thread about your great design and the structure in wich you base off of your concept..give it a break.

Here's a $9 gripper that can pick up things bigger than the $100 bauer grippers ....

Bigger isn't always better
I'm curious to see them in action. ...a video perhaps?
...novel concept though. Definitely an inexpensive alternative. However, comparing grips is in many ways like comparing apples with oranges. There are so many different ways you can grab something. A grip design should depend on what you expect to get out of it. I wouldn't dare rank aguiloco's grips (which are really cool I might add) against mine. Like he said, "I like something more... human". Choices are wonderful!

the price is very steep just for 2 anodized pieces....

They may seem expensive it's true, but it isn't cheap for me to produce these parts. A lot of effort and my own time was put into them as well. Believe me, as much as I'd like to I'm not retiring any time soon. I feel I'm being fair considering. :) All we're offering is some added functionality to the RN-1. For some it's worth it, and others it's not.

Not to concern ourselves w/ semantics here, but there's actually four brackets, the hardware, and some nifty instructions too. :D

I do like your grips buer! I am sure if you where a machine company and could mass produce the price would be much less, but unfortunately your not. And I for one appreciate you eagerness to share your fun with everybody.

I do like the way Captin over simplifies everything. It actually helps create a more creative simpler approach that perhaps everyone could could do.

I want to see $9 grippers in action too.

Yha, It also depends on what you want to grab too!

I agrey with you matt!

Very nifty instructions indeed!!

Too bad you can't make them cheaper...

I for one appreciate you eagerness to share your fun with everybody

I don't think you're the first.

Don't let it bug you too much. It's just one guy and I think it's safe to assume the rest of us think you're pretty swell.

When you post a product/idea for all to see then you better be able to take the bad along with the good. Warrior might have been a bit more tactful but at least you got some feed back. If you expect it all to be positive life is going to get a bit rough for you.

With that said your design leaves something to be desired and is pretty much a waste of a $9 servo. You aren't going to pick up anything with any amount of authority with the coke can "gripper". There is no rigidity at all to that design.

Matt's stuff is expensive for sure but he doesn't have the luxury of economy of scale. Get enough people interested that he could do production runs of 1000 units or better and you'd see a drastic change in cost.

It might be a bit expensive but if you have to have a good solid design, that you can't build yourself, he is the way to go. Yours on the other hand, well, you get what you pay for.

I have a MANOI and would be very interested in considering a set of these if you make some more. The style fits exactly what I need. Would like to know the dimensions, as I need a smaller grip than the usual, if possible.
