wats good ery body,

Ive been on the computer for the last ten days checking out the RN. My local hobby shop has one in stock and im jest waitin for christmas to come so that ma dad will pick it up n give it to me!! But i was wondering if i might be getting in a little over ma head? i assembled the MARK III mini sumo bot and altered it into an autonomous golf ball retriever :D so i was thinking i am ready to step it up to the next level , HUMANOIDS:lol: [[[i luv these face icons,, mad fresh liek for real!!!]] So i dont have any knowledge on writing codes or anything like that because im too busy to learn how to.

So to get to the point........Will i be able to assemble this beasty? It seems rather tricky....... :?

Please take 1 minute out to reply.......id be thrilled :D :D :D

Well...... I think if you can answer yes to the following you should be okay:

1. You are prepared to take your time
2. You can work logically and follow instruction manuals
3. Know how to use a screwdriver and pliers

That's about it. Not sure what your background is but I have been building 'bots for about 15 year but my background was RC cars and boats. I think that helped and I think your sumobot experience will too.

Hope you get your bot and remember there are lots of people on the forum here that can help and advise.

Have fun

Hi 2roll
How old are you?
What do you what to learn about robots?
What do you want to do with your robot?
How good are your tools and workspace?

Answer me these and I may be able to tell you what you need to know.

Marcus.

You would be better suited to Lego Mindstorm.

The Robonova is not a toy or anywhere near a toy. You would be dissapointed by it.

Just like if you ever lost a pair of Lindstrom cutters.

actually, i think the lego mindstorm is a joke. Ive been researching liek crazy diffrent codes and programs that are compatible with the RN and have found it to be very expandable.

I have built two mini sumo bots in the past and went to the state science fair for my robotics experiment with the golf ball retriever that i mentioned earlier.

My question was not, "is the robonova a toy"

I am just curious as to what and how hard the building process is for the robonova.

But thanks for your time, i greatly appreciate it :D

I think that the only thing that is really important is that you plan to stick with the robot once you have started. Recognize that by taking up this challenge you cannot just back away, it will be difficult and you may want to give up. If you at any time plan to do so then I recommend something else.

Now, that being said I hope that if you want to do this you do take up the challenge. Here at the forums there are many that will try to help you and guide you through problems you may have. It may take up to a week even, but there is a lot of information here.

As for building its pretty straightforward to do... I recommend watching out for mistakes in the manual, but its not too hard to fix. Assembly is about 8 hours and you can probably get that down to 6 with an electric screwdriver.

Programming is in Basic, and it can be done via Catch'n'Play which lets you handle the robot, click a button, and then capture its position. Furthermore you can adjust speeds and such along the way. It is a very simple programming language.

My advice parallels Pev's list. Enjoy
