Thanks for posting the HSR-8498 pictures. What kind of repair was it? It looks like the gears are replaceable but the board parts are all SMTs. Can you get individual parts for the servos or is it a matter of swapping components between two existing units? How well do these servos hold up under lots of normal use? I'm curious because I'd like to run my RN for long periods of time, with restbits periodically to prevent overheating. Would you suggest keeping spares on hand and if so, how many?

The failure points on this servo are gears, and motor. When the motor goes so does the h-bridge. Becarefull running your RN-1 for long periods under load you may smoke a motor. I've yet to figure out how to remove the motor from one of these. Perhaps heating in an oven. Gears are easily replaceable and generally only fail if your RN-1 falls off a table or something drastic.

Here is a pic of the motor removed

It is removed by great pressure on the bit of motor you can see from the top. There is a small patch of adhesive you need to overcome to push the motor out of the housing.
This adhesive is shown in the picture.

Thanks DirtyRoboto for the pictures too. I just smoked :oops: servo
#8 during zero set. I have a problem with both ankles not going to center (100) during zero set, it look like they are going to 160 which hit the ankle bracket

Sorry to hear about the servo burnup. But can't RN be shut down if a servo is forced against something for a minute without smoking? So how long does it take a servo to smoke, if it's restricted from movement? This would be good to know as I imagine there are possibilities of that happening during RN operating in the real world. 8O

Greetings everyone. Thx for the info above, but I got some other type of question. I'm trying to implement the "brains" of hitec servo into another one. So I'd need some information on the hi tec servo hex codes, and ways to program/re-program it. Tried using the servo-tester for programming, but ain't got nothing out of it :(
