Empty Bioloid Cases?

I am starting work on a new controller for the Bioloid. The current plans include a Parallax Propeller processor, dual 485/TTL Dynamixel bus, oLED display with soft buttons, Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz wireless (PS2/3 or Wii wireless remotes and multi-robot/host communications), and external memory (USB/SD).

I am also hoping to create a new sensor based on the PropCam once that becomes available.

Jon is working on the 6-axis sensor as well which I am very interested in.

What we need are blank cases to house these in. Is there any chance we can talk Robotis into selling just the plastic pieces? Even better would be a true blank where we can drill our own holes as needed.

Any thoughts?

An AX-12/AX-S1 case is far bigger than what I need for the 6-axis IMU.

I could fit two of the complete IMU systems inside one of those cases.

You bring up an interesting point though - if we're building components that we expect people to be able to use, they need to be "mountable" on a standard Bioloid robot.

For my purposes, there's a pretty big space under the CM-5, between the hip yaw servos, where people can fit the imu board. There's also a decent size space in between the shoulder servos, in front of the CM-5 box, where the imu would most likely fit.

RoboSavvy is shortly going to have stock of Comprehensive Advanced Frame set. This is basically a Bioloid Comprehensive Kit without AX12s, AXS1, A/C adapter, Battery, CM5. But has all the plastic parts and servo cables.

As for an empty AX12 servo boxes, thats a bit more challenging but definitely can have interesting uses for alternative sensors. Will have to ask Robotis.

I am also looking to get empty CM5 boxes to house the new controller.

Has anyone reverse-engineered the Bioloid file type? I want to be able to import and export there files from my controller.
