Newcomer for bioloid kit

Yesterday I received my bioloid comprehensive kit which I ordered from robosavvy. First of all I must say that I was impressed with the way the kit is organised, after 6 months experimenting with a Robonova I think this was the right step. With it I ordered a USB2Dynamixel, a set of Zig-bee modules together with a zig2serial interface and an extra brackets set. I have some questions to ask, after my first experience with the bioloid kit:

1. In the behaviour control program is there a way how to set the default COM port because the program is switching all the time to COM port 10 and more often than not sops responding. (The com port I'm using is com 1)

2. Is there any documentation around how to connect a zigbee module to a Zig2Serial interface. In the user's guide on page 96 there is a photo showing how to mount a Zigbee module on the CM-5, but I didn't manage to find a photo showing how to place it on a Zig2Serial interface. I tried on robotis.com website, there is a link for the Zig2Serial manual but it doesn't work  Any suggestions.

Thanks

Cool!

1. I have the same thing, if anyone knows how to set a default port let us know.

2. I forget how I found how to mount it... Oh well, I uploaded pictures of my Zig-100.

BTW - If you got an extra AX-12 when you bought your Bioloid kit, let us know when you go to program it (those things are hard).

Thanks Scotty for the photos now all I need is a soldering iron - well, unfortunately soldering is not the my strongest point.

BTW - If you got an extra AX-12 when you bought your Bioloid kit, let us know when you go to program it (those things are hard).

How did you know? Yes I got two extra AX-12s and a sensor module, but I don't think I will use them for now. Why are they hard?

I would like to resist the temptation of building the humanoid. For now I would like to experiment with other forms of robot - robotic arms, rovers and others. I will build the humanoid in summer.

Thanks again

Hi Charles,

When you go to program the Bioloid if it has extra servos (I don't know about the sensors), the CM-5 will get an err. To solve this you must set an ID, then program the robot with a template that will suport the extra servos (you may not need a template if you write your own program).

Maybe "hard" was the wrong word, I should have said confusing.

I built the humanoid first, not to tempt you. : D

I did the zig-bee mod today. The hardware seems to work ok - i.e. when both the zig-bee attached to my PC (through the USB2Dynamixel) and the one on the CM-5 are on the LED on the zig-bee stops blinking which is a sign of communication according to the manual. Later on this week or the next one I will try to write some code either in Java or in C# to send some packets to the CM-5 to see how the wireless communication works.

I am part way through a C# lib to talk to the CM5 from my PC at this stage I have only got SyncWrite working as this is all I need. Let me know if you want my somewhat incomplete C#lib.
