UPDATE:- 27-09-08 updated the youtube link

Check it out.

This is my very own version of that cool robot dog (puppy robot with the Nokia N800 as its head)

This video is unedited and goes for about 8 minutes.
phpBB [media]

I have been trying to get the robot to send voice commands to my new Asus Eee PC. But the voice audio (from the N800) is not loud enough, and possibly has the wrong frequency range. So no luck yet. That would be so cool if I can get that idea working.

And thanks goes to these guys : - https://garage.maemo.org/projects/robot/

that is sweet. I guess attaching these high end cell phone are becoming more and more popular! Curious, what happens when you get an incoming call? I hope that isn't your primary cell phone!

Thanks tom_chang79, Glad you like it :)

EDIT: I just had an idea. Just imagine the robot being a telephone answering service. Every phone call it gets can be relayed to me (by voice and gesture) :)

The Wifi (on the n800) is configured to AD-HOC mode, so it can directly connect to another Nokia n770/n800 or Notebook (witch is used as a remote controller)

The Nokia n800 (used as the head of the robot) is an internet tablet. It can use Skype for out going (or incoming) phone calls, and it can do Video conferencing as well. However, you need to connect to a LAN WiFi for that service.

The WiFI on the Nokia n770/n800 can be configured in lots different modes (and settings) like: - LAN, Proxy, AD-HOC ...

No, the code has not changed since December 15, 2006 according to the date on the garage.maemo site. The link was updated because I had shutdown my last youtube account (linux23dragon) some time ago.

And to be honest I have not done any more work on the robot since I first posted. So I'm not sure if upstream have opened another project or are using the same project thats always been there.

It was not easy to get the Nokia n800 to setup compared to the Nokia 770. The applications are not available from the same source (or even the same versions) as the recommendations (found in the README.txt file) suggest.

It was the xterm shell

770 uses the osso-xterm-0.13 and ncurses-base-5.4-4
n800 uses the osso-xterm-0.13.mh24bora1 and ncurses-base-5.5-1mh2

The n800 files was not easy to come by.

All other packages were able to install on both Internet tablets.

The OS used for the 770 is OS 2006 edition version 3.2006.49-2
The OS used for the n800 is OS 2007 edition version 4.2007.26-8

The SDK is meant to be for the Nokia 770, but I think it might work OK with the n800. I don't have the Nokia n810, yet :)

In the near future I might add my own updates (submitted upstream). I have some ideas.
