Can this be true? I just saw this video on youtube, off of the profile Robosavvy:

phpBB [media]

Can this be true? Is this kit going to be coming out? An axe hand would definitely be a plus to do battle against other bots...

Couple this with the wireless controller that Robotis is supposedly releasing (the zigbee-based), and you'd have a serious Robo-One contender!

indeed i posted about this a couple of weeks ago.
the new upgrade kit is still in development. I've pleaded with Robotis to keep t he mighty ax which undoubtedly will be a huge selling point.
The upgrade kit doesn't have a release date quite yet.

You and your friend are in an open field and are confronted by a hungry lion. The lion starts to charge and it is clear you must run. What should your immediate goal be?Some say "Outrun the lion."Others say "Outrun your friend."

One of the things that appealed to me in favour of the Bioloid over the RoboNova etc were the plastic frames and strong construction.

Putting the 'hip' servo in (there's a hole there ready for it) would put a significant strain on the servo bearings, perhaps catastrophically so.

The plastic frames, whilst bulkier than the metal ones, are probably slightly lighter and definitely more flexible. Strength isn't everything and it's nice for me to think that the plastic will elastically bend a little under extreme movements rather than the permanent bend of a metal frame.

Of course, this is all just an opinion :)

The guys from Spain at blog.Ro-Botica.com did end up going to that big robot event in Korea (remember we were looking for a humanoid team to go there on someone else's expense) and have had access to the new upcoming Robotis metalic fighter bioloid kit/upgrade prototype. They took it to a new level by choreographing an amazing synchronized dance to a catchy tune of Baila El Chiki Chiki [ in case any of you didn't know, After a unique national selection process in Spain, where artists submitted their entries for the Eurovision song contest primarily through website MySpace, a televised national selection was held where the top songs chosen from MySpace were performed. This was won by Rodolfo Chikilicuatre with his song Baila El Chiki Chiki ].
They didn't waste much time after receiving positive feedback to the robot dance and took the robot show it to the Spanish Eurovision screening TV event viewed by millions.

here's a piece of the action from the TV event:

and here's a cleaner version of the robot dance routine:

I'd like to see the metallic Bioloid fight. I can't get in to these "dress up and look silly" videos.

Any more news on this kit? I'm a little confused. Is this kit being developed/manufactured by a third-party or is it from Robotis?

At RoboGames in San Francisco last weekend, Robotis had several Bioloids with 100% black aluminum parts and wireless controllers. They could not give dates for US availability, but one rep promised we would be able to get them here by the end of the year.
