each servo of robotis has its unique id, so that it can be identified by the controller. hope this is a very rare case, but regretfully during operation a few of them losed its id and this can be only resetted by factory, as I hear.... So my friend need to sent this back to asia..

According to the AX12 servo manual the ID field is writable and can be set by software. I have not tried this but I guess that you might set again an ID on that servo by sending a command to it. As you have lost the ID in this case you should use a broadcast message (ID=0xFE) and connect only the servo whose ID you want to change.

You can easily change the IDs, this is e.g. important if you need more than 19 AX12 in one robot (you can assign numbers 20, 21...).
You can do this with the software "Robot Terminal" (on the bioloid CD). Only connect the AX12 to change to the CM5, connect this to the serial connection of your pc, connect robot terminal and go in "manage" mode on the CM5.
With "search" you'll find all connected IDs (you can see, to which ID it has changed) and with "id 8" you could change it (in this example to "8"). After confirming with "y" the new ID is set.
