I am afraid it cannot be a "simple" cable. There must be some electronics within these apparently simple serial connector. Remember that AX servos are managed using TTL signals.

Good point! Thanks for bringing that up. The Bioloid uses TTL for its serial communication between the CM-5 and the Dynamixels. TTL uses voltages of around 0 volts (for logical 0) and +5 volts (for logical 1). The serial communication to the PC uses RS232, which typically uses voltages of around -10 volts (for logical 1) and +10 volts (for logical 0). The RS232 spec allows for up to 25 volts.

See the Wikipedia document on RS232.

You’re both right of course. And it doesn’t look there’s a lot of simple ‘homebuilt’ potential for the electronics to convert rs232 to ttl if you look at this link.

I would bet the cable has a MAX232 chip or similar inside.

Wait a minute, how do they reach 1mbps from the PC serial port ?

Did anyone crack the Dynamixel Configurator cable?

I suspect it could just be a resistor/diode job but the question is which pin? The diode would remove the negative voltage swings and the resistor current limit and or voltage drop. A Max232 would need power which could be derived from other of the serial port pins but is a costly solution to the problem.

Also, just because it is the serial port that is being used doesn't mean the high baudrates couldn't be used by toggling the individual pins on the port directly in software.

hi guys,
I want to set my cm-5 to the original setting, since i have several changes to the walking parameters throguh BCP. I have tried to re-installed ROM file Bioloid_ver115, but it seems it still the same. It is not back to the original parameters.
any idea?
thanks....

Have you tried to reload the motion data (mtn file)?

Hi guys,
I am sorry, it should not be BCP, but Motion file.I have change some parameters in some motions and I forgot already to record the original one. i have redownloaded mtn file or even to re-install my Biloid software..
but still the same...
