ROM version. How to restore the original version ?

Pev pointed out that the version in ROM and the version in the CD do not match! I have been testing the C programing interface and I have updated the ROM with the image that comes in the CD. But as Pev pointed out, it is an earlier version !!! Arghhhssss !!! :x

Is there a place to download the current ROM (or an upgraded version)?
Limor, any place to go to look for such things ? The Robotis web site looks almost empty!

Inaki,

If you go to the robotis website - pick english then click data you get 3 items in the menu on the left. Click product diagrams and it expands the menu to more items the last one being program.

Click Program and you get a list of about 10 downloads - one says "[Bioloid]CM-5 update program" - unfortunately it is all in Korean but appears to be firmware although from what I can make out only the 1.10 version.

One question for you - with your QuadPod did you see any issues with unprogramed movement? Also did you use the motion capture tools or was it all code?

I am beginning to think that having all 19 servos in action at once may be highlighting a memory managment issue in the motion pages, although this is only a guess. I think I am going to try and build a simple bot with the kit over the weekend and see if I experience the same sort of issues.

Here is a place where I found the desired download of Bioloid CM-5 firmware Version 1.12

http://www.besttechnology.co.jp/download/index.htm

Its also all Japanese to me, but I think its the right item. This is the download link on the site:

http://web.besttechnology.co.jp/downloa ... 060419.zip

Hope it will help! (I guess a Japanese speaking firmware is not too bad  )

Thanks! By the way have you taken a look at a program called Dynamixel Configurator ? It connects directly from USB to Dynamixel servos.

It is apparently intended for RS485 Servos. As the AX12 is TTL I wonder if there is a similar approach for them.

The GUI looks as if it was state of the art:

Got no cable, so I couldnt test anything. And due to the brief information on the website (if you choose the exite-translated version you can see Japanenglish) you may also use it for AX-12 configuration.

Hello Bioloidists,

The download link mentioned above seems to be disabled? They simply cant have switched it off because of its mentioning leading to too heavy traffic on the download server

Does it smell like CM-5 V 1.12 was too buggy and well soon see V 1.13 ????

Besides the fact that I seem to be very chatty :( I am concerned about installing without knowing the consequences. This is the exite translation of the download link text on page http://www.besttechnology.co.jp/download/index.htm :

Bioloid CM-5 firmware

'06 5/18 Bioloid CM-5 firmware Version1.13
It is a firmware of controller CM-5 for Bioloid. Please it is compressed in ZIP and defrost and use it. Moreover, please see "Update of firmware in Chapter CM-5 9-2" of the start guide about the method of updating the firmware.

Content of update:

1. The firmware update function to AX-12 is strengthened. (Please inquire the latest firmware of AX-12 of the TECHNICAL SUPPORT appropriating. Please ..update of the firmware of AX-12.. work ..the manager (Or, individual user)... )

Limor, Pev, Inaki, stevo3d:

Any comments especially concerning the last paragraph? I dont want to have a brand new CM-5 firmware which won't match the AX-12 firmware. What are you intending to do? Maybe I am too impatient, I apologize ... but he really spills large amounts of beer.

Thanks for support

Barbar,

I also noted that on the site is a new version of the boiloid software:

http://web.besttechnology.co.jp/download/BioloidSoftware_SetupR1.2.exe

I have downloaded it and will check back in a few minutes with details of the version changes.

As for the firmware, I like you am in two minds. My only thought is that we do have copies of the 1.12 firmware we could downgrade to if there was an issue. Still thinking about this one though......

Okay, I have now installed the new version of the Bioloid software for Windows and have found the following version differences:

Motion Editor was 1.13 after install of R1.2 it is 1.14
Behaviour Control Prog was 1.24 after install of of R1.2 it is 1.25
Robot Terminal has remained at 1.01 but this is only on the title bar of the window, there does not appear to be a help screen.

So this version of the software appears to be newer than the one shipped with the kits.

As I have now the 1.10 version I will go ahead and install version 1.13.
After all the worst thing that can happen is having to go back to version 1.12.

I was loooking this morning at the Robotis site and there was still the 1.10 version !

Fortunately there is some improvements on the Robotis software side which is good.

Have just tried the 1.13 firmware. Update suceeded, I reloaded my motion file just to be on the safe side but within a couple of minutes I got a spasmodic unprogrammed movement

Guess we need to wait and see what Robotis say, but I would be very interested in anyone elses feedback and experiences.

O.K. Here is my short report in addition to Pevs. I also upgraded to

CM-5 Version 1.13
Behavior Control Programmer Version 1.25
Motion Editor Version 1.14

No noticeable improvements ... same random spasmodic unprogrammed positional glitches as before ... running out of towels!

And when I go to menu "Help", "About Motion Editor" my system hangs up (maybe my antique system) and I have to use the windows task manager.

Concerning the Dynamixel Configurator a few posts above from inaki & barbar.

Image
(http://www.besttechnology.co.jp/goods/revolute/index.htm#BTE063)

Found this simple looking cable on the besttechnology site (article number BTE063). Looks like the AX-12 is directly connected to the com port. Curious to what pins the wiring in the plug goes.
