Unprogrammed Moves (first little research results)

Never leave a motion page like this (when you play or call the motion):

Image

No theory, fact: If I leave the questionmarks (=off-status) in the motion page I get unprogrammed movements with a probability of 100%. To those who are very accurate: Maybe the movements are programmed, but then they are not intended. Sorry, I did not read the values of the dynamixels - maybe all of them have 0 or 1023 in the goal position. If so, it may leave some sort of logical explanation for the bug. Ah ... yes: This also happens if I leave questionmarks in a few or even one dynamixel of the pose. Ah ... yes: I dont know if the same results can be achieved with the GUI motion editor because I dont (want to) use it.

Theory, no fact (=to be confirmed): If I fill in the complete motionpage (= fill in every dynamixel position in every pose even if you dont need all of the poses) I get no unprogrammed movement when I play motion pages.

These unprogrammed moves are my only "real" issue, therefore my priority. Sorry for not caring about other questions. Going to bed now ... need sleep.

Barbar,

I haven't had a chance to do a detailed check but I do get the unprogrammed movements on pages where I have every pose completed. However I know I have other pages with some empty poses.

I am really interested in getting an update from Robotis now. They have stated they believe it is a firmware bug and I really would like to know the update for the fix.

Here's hoping.......

Yeah I concur with Pev. I have a number of motions with every pose completed that sometimes have unprogrammed movements. Also very often in my programs while the robot is waiting for input in a loop, not playing any motions at all, one of the servos will move on its own to 0. Hope the fix for that is realeased soon by Robotis.

Another (perhaps useless) data point: I spent quite a number of days programing a 4-wheeled bot. Never experienced any unprogrammed movement but all servos were in continuous rotation mode and thus ignoring any goal position data.

For those searching for answers, the glitching or unprogrammed motions problem has been solved by patching the CM-5 and all AX-12s as described in this post:
http://robosavvy.com/modules.php?name=F ... opic&t=309

This post shows where to download the software in one handy package, along with some other enhancements and additional robot files:
