Hello All

I've been talking to the robotis reps in korea and I'm looking at the new/updated bioloid that's coming out next year. The main difference is an updated upper body and electics. It will come will lipo battiers as standard what is clipped in the back so that you can replace them easily. They will be more ports for connecting to serovs and other devices, but will have the same atmega128 chip. it will come with the AX+ servos. they haven't got a price yet.

I have photos and will upload later.

I'm hear for another couple of hours so if your quick and send me some questions I can ask them.

from you man on the ground in korea.

Bren

Yess!! Thanks for the heads up.

Have been prosponing my order for weeks in anticipation of something like this. Will do with simulations in the meantime. I sure hope my octapod enters reality in the next 2 years.

:?:1: LiPo charger onboard, is it safe?
If onboard charger, a charge-socket bracket would be great. A homing beacon charge station.
:?:2: Will they introduce new sensors?
:?:3: Long distance wireless kit?
:?:4: Actuators used other than the AX-12?
:?:5: New brackets?

When will it go on sell next year in the US? I saw it at Robogames 2008 and thought it looked cool! 8)

I think so, talking to the rep, she said they haven't settelled on a price but I get the impression that the design is completed, they gave demos of it working.

Barryke

1: I think so I didn't see them charging but I did see them changing the lipo, it takes about 10 seconds
Question2: It had the zig wireless and controller and will come with gyro
Question3: zig thing
Question4: AX12+
Question5: same brackets apart from the the main torso/chest which is a new design.

I think they might be hear tomorrow so any more questions.

Was it the grey one or the white one. I liked the design of the gray colored one the best. Did they have it walking yet?

Hells robots! D'oh how could i forget to ask the release date!

Gyro sounds cool. I hope it is accurate and makes adapting / customizing bots even less of a hassle.
I'm mostly interested in making it run my own software. No news in that particular field i guess?

Recharging a LiPo in under a minute is unplausable, i guess it wasn't empty. Perhaps they let the charger cell-balance or "fresh up" the lipo?

Will it have a software accessible battery monitor?

you can get a preview of the robot by searching this forum. there was a competition in Korea early this year an the guys from the Spanish robot shop got their hand on one of the prototypes and managed to get it on TV at the Spanish Eurovision screening contest. The video is quite funny showing the robot dancing with a guitar.

Be aware that the price is going to be "significantly" higher than the current Bioloid kit as to not jeopardize their current best seller.

There is no release date yet for the new robot but don't let that prevent you from getting a Bioloid kit now or at least learning about Dynamixel.
[ for example by buying a combination of say an AX12 servo, USB2Dynamixel (control the servo from a PC), SMPS2Dynamixel (power adapter). ]

Baila el Chiki chiki ("Dance the Chiki Chiki")
phpBB [media]

It was a prototype (I think). For what I saw and "touched" (in the shop at Barcelona), it had some metallic parts, aside the "hands" and the new battery, the charger were pretty different (hereyou can see it)

P.S.: Here is the "original Chikilicuatre" It all started as a joke in a late nigh show, but finally they went to Eurovision xD, voted massively by the late night TV show fans

That's not the bioloid they had here on show, the one here was very similar to the original but with some small changes. Will post the pics and video when I get home from this trip next week.

Bren,

Would you mind asking if there will be an upgrade kit for users like me who have a Bioloid?

Dell Latitude D520, Windows XP, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB HDD, Intel Core 2 Duo. The power that's needed!

I think that's a Farrell Bioloid design for some reason.

That robot was front and center at the Bioloid booth during Robogames. Look at the robots in the background they are all Bioloids. Below is a video of the Farrells robots that I toke during Chibotica.
