Hi everybody, a new member here.
I've been playing with the Parallax Boe-Bot, and lately with an upgraded Brat biped from Lynxmotion. However, I have been itching to get something more complex, and have narrowed it down to the Phoenix hexapod from Lynxmotion, or the Bioloid Comp Kit. I have seen many writeups on the Bioloid biped, but not much on the hexapod. Can anyone tell me how well does it compare to dedicated hexapods like the Phoenix, etc? I like the idea of being able to build a lot of different configurations of robots with the Bioloid Kit, but I am really interested in the hexapod specifically right now...

Hi Polbit & welcome to the forums.
You can have the best of both worlds. I have had a comprehensive kit for a while, and recently I bought the Phoenix frame set. The pictures below show the resulting robot.
The AX12 servos did not quite fit the Pheonix frame and I needed drill 2 additional holes on each Tibia in order to fit in the AX12 servos. But it was an easy job, done quickly with a hand held drill. I have also managed to fit the CM5 control unit and battery neatly in the hexapod body.
The robot works very well and the AX12s are very fast and powerful and easily up to the job.

If you are serious about Hexapods I would strongly recommend that you consider one of Matt Dentons Hexapods. Although they can not be reconfigured into other forms like the Bioloid - they are by far the best engineered Hexapods on the Market.

The Phoenix parts kit is really inexpensive, so that will be a great combo once I get acquainted with the Bioloid kit.
