I am so happy I finally got a robot. I guess you guys might have seen or know what is inside the Bioliod Premium Kit. But here it is anyway. I just can't help myself.

I am building it now and is recording videos clips for a comprehensive build video.

Here is a clip of a motion I write using roboplus. I find that servos get hot (servo red light on) and need a rest once in a while.

Issue with robot

Post by UncleBob » Sun Jan 17, 2010 8:05 am

I am programming robot using roboplus motion.

I find that after a while the robot starts to malfunction and pc cannot reconnect. So what I need to do is to switch off the robot, come back in half an hour. Try to put robot in play mode then connect via roboplus again. I also find that working from file is not as good as working on the motion data directly on the robot. It crashes it after a while.

This keeps happening every 10mins and recover. Is this a bug with the cm510?

Something is dead

After three days something is broken. I can no longer connect roboplus to cm510. See the vid above. Either the usb2dynamix or the cm510. I think the premium kit has quite a few bugs to iron out. Eg screw holes location don't fit, remote don't work.

I'm sorry to hear about all the trouble you are having!

As far as your controller connection problem, I suggest that you get a hold of a serial port monitor program. There are various free programs available in the web. No serious roboteer can get far without one!

Your video indicates that the robot is flashing rx and tx so something is passing between them. It could be a configuration problem (bit count, stop count, etc.) or a speed problem.

You can also use an off-the-shelf USB to serial dongle instead of the USB2Dynamixel. I use a Keyspan dongle with no problems to date, but you should know that not all dongles will work properly. For example my Belkin does NOT work!

Great thanks for the advice

Nobody seems to be replying except you. Either the forum is dead or this hobby is not very popular yet. Thanks for the great advice.

Unfortunately, the roboplus does not work when the serial monitor is open. It says cannot open when port is being use.

FYI I open the connection with a free serial port monitor, close it then try roboplus then miraculously it starts working. 60 secs later cannot reconnect. I repeat this and again it works but after few more attempts nothing work anymore.

I think the roboplus and cm510 settngs are not quite in sync.

Robotics is an expensive niche hobby. Also very few people currently have the Premium kit since it just came out. Most people with a Bioloid only have experience with the CM-5.

As for the issue you're having.. Just a random idea to try.. Have you tried unplugging the device, uninstalling the driver from the device manager, and plugging the device back in for it to detect and install again? I've had a USB controlled micro-controller stop working on me a few times and that made it magically work again.

I'm running Windows 7 so it might be slightly different.

Start Menu -> Right click on Computer -> Properties -> Device Manager.

Under Ports (COM & LPT ) find the COM port you are using. Right click and uninstall.

Unplug the device. After you plug the device in it should install again.

Check out my post at http://robosavvy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5619

I had the same problem and ended up sending it back to the supplier. He then received the instructions to reset the cm-510 which he then carried out on mine and it started to work again.

anyway let me know how you go. :)

I like your website. I will try to reset the firmware tonight.

BTW I also have problem with my infra-red premium kit remote. You had such encounter?
