Hi Guys

I just been invited to go to Korea in May. Are any of you going ?

I guess I need to start modifying and programming my Bioloid. I never been to a tournament, any tips will be helpful.

Thanks

UncleBob, how do you get invited? :) You obviously have some some cool things to get invited! Excuse my ignorance, but I'm brand new to the scene. :)

Would this be for a Robo-One competition?

Here is the site. It is still all Korean. But you can search in YouTube for last years event. It is similar to robo one. The rule might be slightly different.

Here's last years humanoid combat rules.
We've been the last two years. It looks like this year it's back in Bucheon at the Samsan stadium. I'm glad its back to May, last year it was held in Songdo in August and it really gets hot in South Korea in August.
Both places are awesome. Be prepared, the Korean's take their robots very seriously.

They take their robot seriously .... Um.... Damn

I been working on it for the last few days. However I am still a long way off to achieve the speed I see on the vid. I think I can do it though. I have figure out a way to make the robot turn quickly. I need to work on walking speed. Then I have a few tricks up my sleeve that I want to try.

Have a few questions
1. I can make the foot longer right ? To 30% of height.
2. Unlike japan robo one the opponent cannot throw himself at my robot and both robot fall?

I post video after the competition so my opponent can find my weak point.

You can make the foot longer and a wider than the original Bioloid foot, 30% of the total height seems a bit excessive. From the last two times I have competed there, I have noticed that usually the Korean robot feet are a little wider, possibly a little longer (than stock Bioloid proportions), but not nearly as big as you are suggesting - they would instead be similar to those seen in the Japanese Robo-One competitions.

The point system over the past two years (and based on a Robo-One 4/5 if I understand it) is simply as follows:
-2 points for knocking down (pre-final matches last up 5/10 pts, where the final matches are instead timed and have rounds)

-1 point for a slip down (no other robot contact, literally just slip) - which occurs if any surface that is not a foot touches the arena floor (so no hands/whatever).

-basically, no, there should be no throwing oneself at another robot to get both to fall. The judge can call no points if this happens - or award equal points to both robots. If this were a traditional martial arts tournament, such a situation would be considered a clash, no points would be given.

A few things to note are, that while there are fairly a lot of stock robots that compete here, only the custom bots actually achieve places (that is, to say, the universities develop better robots, using the dynamixel servos and their own software, and will beat the stock bots).

Make the foot of the bioloid a bit wider an extend the angle of the heel so that your robot can get really low in order to have a good and stable defending position.

I wish you good luck uncle bob.

Thanks guys.

I am going to use two sided tape to stick a piece of aluminium to the foot. Then I can change on the fly. I think I also need spare batteries for different rounds but need to get the plugs.

I am developing new motions everyday. My knee angle is just at the limit 90 degree. Once I get the speed of the basic walks and turns in pare to what I see on vid then I need to train myself. To make sure I can hit the target accurately just like training for K1 :p

I broke a knee servo lastnight as I was programming a walking motion. The gears seem to be strip slightly and rattle when move against force. Luckly I can swap it with a hand servo and change the ID using the Dynamixel program.

Overall I am making some progress with my programming. I got some basic moves ready. However the punching power is not strong. I will need to tune it further just like a master would to improve punching technique of a kungfu student.

I think the competition is very good for me. I can understand more about my robot.

Good to hear you are making progress
