Just read an interesting article on robot dreams about the different screwdrivers:
[edited, dead link removed]

Does anyone know where I can get these "Japanese Phillips" (aka JIS screws) in the UK? I have searched the usual places like screwfix and Maplin but with no joy.

Here's a possibility in the UK to check out-

http://www.probuild-uk.co.uk/products/?catID=19&subCatID=120

They appear to be the same set that Tatwood recommended in the original article on the Robot magazine forum.

I've heard that for some of these humanoid bots a power driver has definite advantages. I've tracked down a good driver, [edited, dead link] www . sjdiscounttools . com/mlw6546-6.html , but have been unable to source any JIS bits.

Has anyone seen these anywhere or are they only available in Japan?

Thanks, Harry

Phillips v Pozi-drive

These are otherwise known as Pozi-drive screwdrivers.
Phillips are pointed
posidrive have a blunt tip.
Virtually all cross point screws are now posidrive but are still referred to as phillips.
Using a pozi-drive screwdriver makes an enormous difference to the torque you can apply before the screwdiver slips.
Cheers - Pete

p.s. loving my bioloid
