An Old Bioloid User with Questions on the New items

Hi All,

Have had a bioloid since they first came out (the comprehensive kit), it was one of the first kits with 19 AX-12 servos rather than the AX-12+ ones. Anyway for a whole lot of reasons I have had litte time to do anything with it but am picking it up form my storage unit this morning.

So having had a look at the site and a breif catchup with the forum I was left with a couple of questions. I do appologise because I am sure these have been answered previously but I haven't been able to find them.

1. I see that the new RoboPlus software is available and can be used with the CM-5, is it worth upgrading to this version over the old Bioloid software?

2. I see a new controller with Lipo batteries and a whole lot more interfacing capability is available. Has anyone replaced the CM-5 in the comprehensive kit with the CM-510? I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work but thought I would ask?

Thats the two pressing questions for now, great to see this is all still going strong and the advancements that you all have made. Now I need to play catchup with my knowledge :D

Hi Pev

I am also the guy who has Bioloid from ages and I have to say I didn´t made the things I deam at the moment I purchase, probably because of me more than Biolid.

Also I am the kind of guy who use (or try to use) the software that came with Bioloid, nor C or some other flavour or low level programming, so I always claimed for a better version of the old Behavior Programming Something...

So when the new software arrives I quickly purchased the CM-510. In fact I have purchase the Upgrade Kit which cames with the CM-510, new sensors, more plastic pieces and some nice aditional stuff (remote control and accelerometer) and also the new battery and charger. I suggest you to take a close look to this kit.

Until this moment I have used a few this new stuff, I have tried the new Roboplus software and I have to say it is miles away from the old one. Of course it has some very basic features you never found before like the "Print" menu (!!) and other programming features such us Call and Procedures which makes the life easier.
Again, Robotis still think we can´t take our own decisions in terms of writing a program, so Robotis still present choices to select, and free writing commands is not permitted...but even this limitations, Robotis is a thing I do recommend.
Also I have to reccomendo you the new sensors stuff and the new aditional ports coming with the CM-510 which allow to connect another kind of sensors, ever the sensor you may build from your own .
that's it, I hope it helps, regards

Yes! It's a lot better.

Yest, it works perfectly

The upgrade to Premium kit is a must. Not only it includes new sensors and electronic parts, in addition it includes all the structural elements. Then there are more possibilities to build :)

What do you mean with "take our own decisions" and "free writting commands"?

Robotis has improved a lot the CM-510 programming with C. And now there is an API for usb2dynamixel for some main programming languages.

Thank for all the helpful comments - I have looked at the store and can't find the upgrade to premium kit - is this an option that is packaged or did you just purchase the Premium kit? If it is an option is there a link to it?

Many Thanks

Thanks for the fast response. Oh well I will have to m ove gradually. Will start with the Cm-510 AND LiPo battery/charger setup first then add the sensors etc.

I do need to work put the interface for the Zig110 module at the CM-510 end as I still want to be able to use Bluetooth as a lot of my control programs are heading towards devices that run Android and the like.

Thanks again

What do you mean with "take our own decisions" and "free writting commands"?

Robotis has improved a lot the CM-510 programming with C. And now there is an API for usb2dynamixel for some main programming languages.

It is a matter of fact the improvements on new version.
When I say "free writing is not permitted" is referred in the scenario when you stay into the Roboplus language, where the commands are suggested by the program.
