Hi guys this is my latest robot the knight Templar II. Most of the servos are robotis rx24f which is twice as fast and strong as the ax12. The arm servos are ax12 taken from my bioloid premium. Then I will upgrade my premium with ax18.

The initial feeling about the rx24f is that it is approximate half the price of the rx28 but it is twice the speed. Of course the torque suffers. However for an under 2kg robot it should be perfect. You can see the servos are strong enough to make the robot jump.

I am also using cm700. It can connect to both ax12 and rx24 at the sametime. One thing I am not used to is the lack of the beep sound from the cm700. This is particularly desirable when running low on battery. Also there is no plug for a wall power supply. I guess I can make an adapter if I want to. The cm700 is also a bit jerky at times. E.g after I save a motion in roboplus it sometimes misalign the servos slightly. One more down side is it does not have a case so you have to be creative. Apart from that it does the job fine and no big issue so far.

For the rx24f, it is very loose when there is no power so as soon as power is off the robot will not stand. This is not the case with ax12. In terms of performance it is very strong, fast and amasingly silent. Because of this the arms can whoop like a ninja.

In terms of robot programming experience it is much easier to make gait when you have strong robots. This is because the robot won't wobble and make the robot fall so a lot more is now possible.

I have more vid, photo and diagram in my blog be sure to check it out and leave a comment.

Btw there is a poll in my blog. I notice the number of vote for rx24 made robot has increase quite a bit after the knight Templar II is made. I guess it shows ppl what rx24 is capable of at a price an intermediate roboticist find ok.

Thanks again, please post most videos, its fun to watch...

wobble

When I say it does not wobble meaning that with ax12 on the bioloid premium when the robot is doing something with its legs because the servo is not strong enough the leg is not position to the target coordinate and so the robot tend to tilt to one side and wobble. Regarding the servo itself it still has some slope to my surprise but it does not affect the performance much.

I got some gait let me put it together shortly and post it.

Regarding jealous. I think a robot is not very very expensive like a Ferrari Sport car where it is totally out of reach. Yes I have worked for a few years and have more money than when I was a student. For some people they have an iMac and expensive SLR camera or a car. I don't have those things and the money I save from not buying those things is used on buying things that really matter to me.

Very nice. Is making me consider updating the leg servos on my bioloid, especially if it looses the AX whine :D

hehe don't take my 'jealous' statement the wrong way,

I guess it was more appropriate to say "must haz" ;)

and I think you are totally right, it is very reachable if you save up to it. :)

cheers

 Amazing stuff UncleBob!

What are you using to program the gaits - Robotis software or do you have something else?

edit: Ok I see from your blog you are using roboplus

I will be getting a few AX18's for my Premium over the next few months but I will be putting off any dreams of RX's just for the moment I think, especially as my CM-510 wont operate them.

...off to your blog to read more about your Knight Templar...

Knights Templar is surrounded by intrigue and secrecy. They rose to almost unassailable might and wealth from their genesis in the First Crusade. For nearly two hundred years they dominated medieval Europe only to be suddenly and dramatically eradicated.

Hi Mohit

Nice try. But I think it will be very hard to make it walk. It is too tall and the center of gravity can easily be behind of infront of the robot. The only robot I know of one robot which can walk with these long legs. However it is very difficult to program. Your best bet would be to make the feet bigger / make the step shorter / legs shorter.
