Hi,

I'm working on a homemade hexapod using some parts of the bioloid kit.

I am hence trying to build a CAD model of my custom bot.
I noticed a while ago that Robotis provided CAD files (IGES format) for the DX series, and the DX brackets. I couldn't find any CAD files for the AX on the Robotis website.

I was wondering if any of you eventually tried to modelize those parts in a CAD program, or tried to hack the 3D models from the Motion Editor.

They seem to be a cad system developer but thats about as far as I have got. Tried to get a working eval of the software form their website but couldn't get it to run on my system.

As I said most is guess work, I'm still investigating and could well be proved wrong

I will be posting sometime soon the physics animated simulation of bioloid. For now, here's a tip on how to transform the skeletal mesh in DirectX format (.X) provided in the Bioloid CD into any other format.

.X is a rarely used "target format" and there are not many convertors that allow importing .X files (even with PolyTrans I didnt succeed).

One tool that does the job well is fragMotion (www.fragmosoft.com - 30 day evaluation).

Import the .X files and export them to Quake2, Milkshpe or other skeletal mesh game formats and then use a second tool like milkshape or Blender to convert to VRML or 3DS that can be imported into popular CAD systems like Solid / Inventor etc..

Found a 30 day eval of a product called 3D Photo Browser for 3D Users. This can read the .X files and produce VRML, have converted the 18 DOF Humanoid and attached the vrml file below,

I tried to import the VRML file provided above into Rhino, and it didn't work... Does anyone have a CAD file of an AX-12, in a normal CAD format (dxf, iegs, 3ds, etc)?

What the community really needs is a Bioloid Wiki. I'm almost certain that a year from now, when hopefully I will actually have a use for these files, I'll no longer be able to find them. :) A wiki would be a super way to organize information and data of this sort. But who would run it?

There is a iges file on the Robotis web site for the AX-12.
Look for the zip file called AX-series.zip
If you use the web site in Korean it shows up....

Thanks - I found that file, downloaded it, imported the four models into Rhino, and have provided a new package (only in Rhino format) of those parts.
