I managed to get two of the AX-12A servos a couple of weeks back as part of an order I had for pan & tilt vision setup. The casings do certainly look more refined and clean than the previous version, though I've not opened one up to check the new gear material. From the docs I thought they were just using a new improved plastic material, but if they are indeed now metal that would be even better news. I've already swapped them out for my bots two knee AX-12+ servos, as a pan & tilt mechanism is of minimal load.

I don't know how I feel about this. It's great that they are improving their product, but these are incredibly small changes. It seems like they could of just incorporated these improvements, minus the new cable mount holes, transparently without forking the AX-12.
