the Bioloid community needs a Wiki!

This was mentioned in another thread, but deserves its own.

It seems to me that there is a lot of scattered knowledge about the Bioloid/Robotis components. There are several different ways people have dealt with the whining problem; a couple of people have successfully communicated with the Bioloid bus from third-party devices; people are working out 3D models of Bioloid parts in standard CAD formats; and so on. This information is public, but scattered, mostly among various threads in this forum (plus a couple of others, like Tribotix and Society of Robots).

What we really need is a Wiki to keep gather this information together. We could have a section on using the stock components and software (including fixing the whine); one on interfacing with custom software and hardware; etc. It'd also provide a place for people to post their own motion files, source code, CAD files, etc.

Anybody else think this is a good idea? Any nominations or volunteers to host it?

Best,
— Joe

Joe (and anyone else interested),

I'm game for hosting this, as soon as I get a new reseller package set up for my wife's hosting plan (should be in the next couple days).

Once I have that, I'll set up a domain, and allocate about a gig of space for this. Any thoughts on domains?

bioloid-wiki . com
bioloid-robotics . com

are both available.

What Wiki/Community software is available, and good? We'll be running on Linux, with PHP and MySQL available.

Thanks Jon! As for domains, how about bioloid-info.net? That seems more clearly a fansite rather than an official Robotis-associated site.

I don't know much about wiki software, but I'm pretty sure the tools you mention will be all that's needed to get it running.

Thanks,

Good point on the domain name.

I have just set up the new hosting package, and the first domain under it is going to be bioloid.info.

We should be up and running in a few days, although I'll still have to set up the wiki software and such, and it always takes time for the DNS to propagate.

Great! I don't have a Bioloid yet, but I'll help fill things in as much as I can by gleaning from other sources.
