Just decide to have a robot related New Year's resolution

1. Try to figure out a way to use normal size servos to build a one meter high robot. Time line by April to have a feasibility conclusion

2. Make a 45 secs Transformer kind of robot movie clip with special effects and overlays. Deadline June.

My New Year's resolution is to get my software control framework finished and up for sale before year's end, with a bot (or two) in a near finished form to demonstrate the capabilities and potential. I was hoping for end of 2012, but stuff happens..

You can do number 1, just need continuous rotation and lots of gear reduction (or belts / pulleys / etc) and the bot will move very very slowly. :)

The 2nd one should be interesting, will wait and watch. :)

Take Care,
Paul

So are you selling a robot ?

For my 1. I think I can do it without making it too slow. The only thing is I don't enjoy cutting aluminiums. I got a 3D Printer but not sure whether it is feasible to DIY all the big tough parts using PLA.

Not selling a bot, not selling any hardware - just software. I'll end up posting my hardware mod info (CAD, G-code, etc) once I've got that finished. I'll end up posting microcontroller code and interface protocol and PC-side libraries to talk to the microcontroller as well. Basically everything but the control framework I'll give back to the community. I'm working with RN1's, they're not too popular these days, but I still like the look. Stock controller removed, replaced with SBC - I have a Roboard, but will be getting a Z530 board that should fit. All servos on the PC-based RN-1's will be HSR5498's (easier to deal with the added weight of the SBC, etc).

I doubt there's enough interest in my hardware to justify trying to sell it.

My main focus is the control framework, software that manages overall operation.

I love working with alu, as long as it's on a mill or lathe or bandsaw. I find hand-working alu to be very tedious.

Not sure about 3D printing for the larger pieces - I guess that'll require some experimentation.

Your initial post has had me thinking.. I wonder how feasible it is to build a large bot of balsa and CA, as is done with RC airplanes, with structural components built like airframes. The framework itself would be quite cheap, and one could transfer the servos and electronics to a new one if required or desired. Hmmm.... One could even wrap the frame in monokote...

In 2013. I wish someone hack the firmware of MX Series Dynamixel or make plug n play dynamixel.
Second wish is make drawings .stl of all 4 black gears inside AX 12+. Anybody have them ?
