Errant Bioloid Puppy training problems

Hi

Now I know you are all going to laugh at my stupidity but I could do with a little help with the Bioloid Puppy I recently built (for my daughter you understand).

I have followed the instructions in the manual and checked and re-checked the positions and numbering of the servos but when I set it up standing square on the table just like the calibration position on page 170 of the manual I get perculiar resuls in the motion editor. When the editor goes away and assesses the position of the servos it comes back with the following picture:
Image
which is far from that expected. Consequently when I run any of the Behaviour Control Programs it just falls over and in some instances jams the limbs up against itself.

I have tried doing the calibrate routine but nothing changes, I still get the same results, a twisted puppy.

Any suggestions as to what I can do to get puppy to perform properly please.

A rather embarassed Mark

Ignorance, NOT stupidity. Ignorance is correctable.

Yeah, right. Like my MANOI was for R&D in my company...

Hi pepperm,

Have you downloaded the correct puppy motion tables to CM-5? Test misbehaving servos in some simple robot configuration – to be sure that their “home positions” are correct.

We documented our puppy project in this https://garage.maemo.org/docman/view.php/134/69/README.txt document. You may try motion tables from our project. Perhaps motion tables are some how corrupted?

I never learned to work with graphical motion editor. I used Robot Terminal instead to program motions, I found it more practical. There is good documentation in Robotis documents how to use Robot Terminal to edit motions.

Hope you can open your twisted puppy.

Still one hint. Replace misbehaving servos with other servos from the kit (remember change the servo ID’s also)

Thanks Kepler I will read your document and see what I can figure out.

I am using the motion files and command program supplied on the new Bioloid program CD that came with my kit so expected it to work. I don't think there is anything wrong with the servos in that I have previously used them in the Humanoid robot without problems.

I must admit that motion editing and the files produced, along with the calibration process are a little confusing for me. This lack of understanding is getting in the way of me figuring out what the problem is. I'll have to put more effort in I guess.

Has anyone got any hints and tips for the Motion editor side of things? Hints and Tips that might help the understanding of the manual or cover things that are not in the manual.

Well, the obvious things to look for:

- are the servos in the right spot (with respect to their IDs)

- are the servos the correct orientation? (i.e., which side is the plug on)

Next thing to try is a reinstall of the Robotis software on your PC.

After that, who knows?

Yep, checked the positions and orientations and I'm sure the software install is OK because it worked with my humanoid OK. Maybe the motion files are wrong?

Has anyone else built the Puppy and tried the supplied motion files and program?

Mark,

I have to ask what motion file was loaded? It just looks to me like the puppy is sitting in a chair, legs crossed waiting for a chat and a coffee lol. (okay maybe I need to get more sleep.)

pepperm,

nice to hear that you solved the problem. Have a look on our latest achievement with our puppy. Now we are able to transfer video from puppy head to remote controller. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkV4kMBUVjw
