After reading about Rook's Pawn III, using hitec 5990. After a few email exchange with Matt, I have decided to order the hitec 5990.
It arrived yesterday.
Here are the test.
I compare it with the standard kondo KHR2 servo 788
RCB3J, 7.2V 1.5A, custom software.
Unmodified Hitec 5990 5 minutes
Speed: 0.1367ms @60degree (kondo 788 was 0.1523ms)
Temperature: very cool (kondo 788 was warm)
Pan: 24Kg above that the 5590 start to struggle (kondo 788 9kg)
tilt: 2.5kg above that the 5990 start to struggle ( kondo 788 1kg)
Accurate: to 1 degree +/-
Overall: For the price of $110, I was very impress with the hitec 5990.
Speed and torque was very good. The temperature was cool compare with the kondo and other standard servo. The only problem I have is the high pitch sound. But after awhile I get use to it.
Modified version 360 degree Hitec5990
I did the same test as above, but I let it runs for 10 minutes straight.
(speed is randomly selected from the software min. to max interval)
Without load: the temperature was a bit warm. 38C degree
With Load (5kg): The temperature was getting warmer. 46C degree.
Keep in mind that I was testing indoor with the A/C on.
I did the same test 360 degree with JR servo and MG995.
They burn out after 5 minutes with 5kg load.
Summary:
Probably one of the best servo I have seen in the Market for the price of $110+tax. However, I notice that Hitec only give you one servo horn. For that price I think they should give a few more.
On the Hitec website, 5990 has a torque of 30kg.cm
But when I tested on a tilt, it was weaker than the Hitec 805BB which only has (24kg.cm). Nevertheless, if you want a good servo and have a lot of money I suggest getting the 5990, but if you want to load onto a tilt, then I suggest you getting the 805BB.
