Making a Robot to make a Robot?

I'm in the process of building a small home made humanoid robot (about 60cm high when finished), but I'm wondering if there maybe a better way? (although its more work initially).

I've been thinking about building a small CNC machine manufacturing style robot, which would then allow me to make parts for my humanoid robot?. (This post about servo enclosures got me thinking about CNC again) ... http://robosavvy.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... sc&start=0

It seems such a cool idea to build a robot to help make another robot, but I'm not sure how to go about making a CNC machine?

The biggest barrier to making a small CNC milling machine seems to be the software to control it?

Does anyone know of any (open source?) software (or hardware designs) i could use or adapt?

Or has anyone actually built a CNC machine to allow them to make robot parts? ... That would be very cool to see photos of any home made CNC machines?

Any advice would be helpful, thanks. :)
