hi everyone, I plan to built my first robot on a budget, so buying 18 servos ain't cool... do you know if it's OK to use cheap chinese servos sg5010? their specs are the same as the basic ones except 5 times cheaper! if you know a better brand or where to get good deals, thanks in advance.

Stay away from the 5010 series. You'll just waste your money and will have to buy better servos. Get mg995 servos.

They are of good quality, that's just a shitty review, from people that demand too much. They've got the torque they are said to have, the build quality isn't bad. But if you know how to solder it shouldn't be all that bad. Also - these servos have been out for a very long time and I assure you the quality has gone up.

I just read through the link above the robot made with the tower pro servos is pretty amazing. You can obviously see the power (torque) of those servos when it does the one leg stand lean back.

The problem of over shooting servo is over come by s-curve.

Having said that I will find it very difficult to program such robot because firstly these servos do not have feedback so you have to triche each servo manually on the computer whereas normally I will triche the robot itself.

So I am very impress to see it still can walk so well partially help by the strong torque.

Secondly I don't have the electronic skills to build and program those boards.

So yes I think it can be done and you substitute money resource with labour and time resources.

But pretty impressive robot still.
