Hi all!
I've been thinking of buying a RN for some time now, but today I saw JR RB1000 for almost the same price. Does anyone any experience of JR RB1000 (http://www.jrpropo.co.jp/robot/index.html)?
The thing that annoys me with RN is I can't program it in a easy way in C. But I think JR RB1000 has the same "problem".
The biggest lost with the JR RB1000 is the support of this nice forum (;_;)

Unfortunately I can't read japanese but stumbling around the site I found in what seem to be the servo specs:
Holy ****! 28.5kg and 0.14s to 60!?? 8O
But I'm not sure the robot uses these. I think instead it uses

I've read the specs, it turns out that the robo market is getting bigger and better...so we may safely assume a new bot on the block will appear every six months or so...that's good for us robo fans...diversity is fun!

The RB1000 uses the RBS581 servos, not the DSR8801.

The DSR8801 servos are about £75-80 each. The chapest I have found is 6 for £384 (64 each). This isnt too bad considering replacement Robonova ones are £45 and 1/3 of the torque.
If you were building a robot you wouldn't need those for every servo, I would only use them on the load bearing legs. The arm servos could be lighter use (cheaper) ones.
How I need a trip to Akihabara, will have to wait 6 months for the prices to come down.

1] The lower limb articulation - additional DOFs at the hips to rotate the legs around the vertical axis - I am CRAZY about this feature and I feel sad that the RN1 doesnt have it...yet...It would require a major redesign of the Rn1 to include something like that. Possible...but not probable.
2] Looks like the body is aluminum. Look closely - doesnt look like plastic. Correct me if I am wrong.
3] Price is good - it appears to be a similar platform to the Omnizero.2 and other V-Stone robots. The price is very attractive...I might sell my RN1 to make way for this bad boy!!

Funny how the consumer robotics industry is turning into something quite similar to the PC industry
Something bigger and badder will always be coming along I suppose...
The RN1 is still the better platform because:
* Well established documentation
* More customers
* Unquestionable support
* Easy to acquire spare parts
* Robosavvy.com
I have always wanted a second robot...came close to getting the Bioloid and backed out - perhaps this robot will become #1...relegating Robonova to the #2 slot in my heart.
I dunno...I still prefer the "cosmetics" of the Robonova. He looks like he means business. Once Matt's grippers show up on his hands - the "badness" meter will go off the scale.
Matt's worked on so much stuff - I think it is only fair that I try to incorporate what I have always wanted on my Robonova - leg-rotation.
Off to the drawing board then!!

True but at least in the PC market you can keep old components because they're interoperable.
The RN1 is still the better platform because:

Don't know about how support applies to me for example. If I want to get a RN1 I have to "smuggle it" to my country since nobody delivers here

True it does look a lot better but looks are the easiest to change. Also the RB1000 looks like it can take grippers a lot easier than the RN1

Some nice things you will find on RN and not on RB100:
1) I2C
2) HMI (Hitec Multi protocal interface)
3) 8 Analog inputs (0 on RB1000)
4) An extra UART

1) 28 servo connections (RN 24)
2) 2 accelerating sensors on the board.
3) An 8ch port for radio controller.
Did I forget anything and is it correct?

Last evening I showed the RN dancing video for my sisters daughter. She is only 20 month old. She liked it so much that she watch it 3 times in a row! The 3rd time she dance like the RN while she was watching them. After that she said: Robot, funny!

I dont think Hitec or any other consumer robot manufacturer makes a distinction based on country of origin. The hard part for you may be getting the robot in and out of your country for service etc.
Where are you from anyway? I face the same problem in my home country - India...
Thats why I am here in USA :p
